Using our in-depth interview process, the staff's knowledge of the existing facility was extracted in order to formulate the spatial and adjacency requirements for this project. Ideas and opinions on how to improve the functioning of the twenty year old institution were also recorded. The design process required meetings with not only various staff departments but also neighborhood residents and city staff. Security issues are very complex and required several meetings with applicable staff members to ensure the proper functioning of the shelter.
